In Part Two of my award coverage of the 2013 Award Season I have included: The winners at the European Film Awards, The New York Film Critics Online Awards and The Boston Society of Film Critics awards.
With the exception of Fruitvale Station taking the breakthrough/debut awards, Stories We Tell honoured for Documentary Filmmaking, and The Wind Rises winning claim as the year’s best Animated Feature there is no crossover between either critical body, which puts an early surprise spin on this very open awards race.
Here we are again, at the dawn of another awards season. The 2013 Independent Spirit Awards nominees have been announced.
HE’S the legendary concept artist behind Alien, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Conan, Total Recall, The Abyss (to name but a few) and come Monday Ron Cobb will be chatting with Graffiti With Punctuation’s Maria Lewis and Blake Howard live.
If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would’ve definitely heard the news that Ben Affleck will be playing the role of Batman in the new Man of Steel sequel. As expected, the comic and movie franchise fans did not receive the news very well and a whopping 71% of the tweets about it were all negative.
Now on November 13, Nolan’s three Batman films – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises – will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment as The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The six-disc set will feature all three films with their existing extra content, two new featurettes and exclusive new collectible memorabilia. “A secret fact about Idris Elba is we did a remix for him about six years ago. He’s got a half decent voice and he’s a good DJ. It was one of his tracks, we just did a remix of it. He was liking some of the house stuff we were doing and he got in touch with our people.”
“I feel the need, the need for meth… I mean speed (sorry force of habit).” – Aaron Paul * This quote was made up*
IT has the best ensemble cast of any superhero movie ever and features one of the most epic comic book story arcs in the Marvel-verse. Yet if the word of Wolverine co-creator Len Wein is anything to go by (hint: it is), X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set to get a whole lot more awesome.
Remake of an Australian 70s cult classic … hmmmm.
Here’s the latest effort from Shrek’s director Andrew Adamson based on Lloyd Jones’ Man Booker Prize Winning Novel; it looks like The Reader meets Life of Pi. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments.

Everything is great (when there’s Muppet news), everything is grand (when we see a glimpse of the latest sequel) and the Muppets Most Wanted has the whole wide world in the palm of its hand.
If you see a more beautifully composed, heartwarming and tantalizing trailer for the rest of the year, I’ll be shocked. My boxing day plans have THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY all over them.
Last night the Sydney Underground Film Festival announced the 2013 lineup for the 7th annual event. At Graffiti With Punctuation we are very excited about this year’s selection, which features a variety of subversive underground hits which have already drawn International attention. We are all spoilt for choice.
Worth a look on Cumberbatch’s Australian accent alone.
After two back to back sublime films in Hunger and Shame, British auteur Steve McQueen turns his hand to the harrowing tale of a free man imprisoned out of spite and forced to endure slavery prior to the American Civil War. This looks like awards bait and with the acting pedigree alone, I’m all in.
Sitting watching this trailer for the first time with my lovely fiancé she gasped, and followed that gasp quickly with this question; “A movie about Nelson Mandela starring IDRIS ELBA; what more could you want babe?”Nothing really.
It’s usually an international gem of a film (ala OLD BOY) that’s being given the English language treatment, but this time Clint Eastwood’s Oscar winning Best Picture Unforgiven (written by David Peoples) being out-sourced.
