The trailer for the Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies dropped this morning and it was AMAZING. If you haven’t already seen it, WATCH IT NOW (below).
Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies Trailer
1. The desolation of Smaug and the burning of Lake-town
We get a brief glimpse of Lake-town burning with Bard (Luke Evans) looking on in despair. This is a pivotal moment in Bard’s character arc, as it leads up to the legendary firing of the Black Arrow. Luke Evans vs Benedict Cumberbatch Round One… FIGHT!
2. Return of the Dwarves
It wouldn’t be The Hobbit without the Dwarves, and they are back in Battle of the Five Armies in full force. For those James Nesbitt fans that were dismayed to not see Bofur in the line up – fear not, he’s simply hiding behind Ori (Adam Brown).
3. “You’ve won the mountain, is that not enough?” – The Fall of Thorin
This poignant line from Bilbo (Martin Freeman) to Thorin (Richard Armitage) neatly sums up what lies ahead for Thorin, son of Thráin, King under the Mountain. Expect to see Thorin’s character arc come full circle after the mountain is reclaimed.
4. Thranduil aka Mr Swaggy Elkerson and his army of CG Elves
Lee Pace will return in Battle of the Five Armies, bringing his fantastic portrayal of the Elven King Thranduil with him (along with his trusty elk and CG Elven army). In the books, Thranduil leads the Elven forces and is the first to charge during the Battle of the Five Armies, so expect to see him getting his battle on.
5. Holy Bats, Bilbo!
Expect to see a large colony of bats descend on our heroes during the Battle of the Five Armies, in true Louis Morneau (Bats – 1999) style. In the books the bats are described to be vast in number, so vast that they cover up the sun. We may see a similar 300 style visual effect in the flick.
6. Galadriel, Gandalf and the 9 Lords of Númenor
For fans of the Nazgûl, this shot shows us a glimpse of the Nine in their wraith form. SO COOOOOOL. In the Lord of the Rings, Lead Concept Artist and Illustrator Alan Lee made a cameo as one of the Nine Kings. Will he be reprising his role and making an appearance in the Hobbit?
7. Elrond drawing his sword like a badass
SERIOUSLY THOUGH HUGO WEAVING IS AWESOME LOOK AT HIM
8. “Leave Sauron to me.” – Saruman
Christopher Lee reprises his role as Saruman. Could this be the encounter that sparks his enamour with Sauron and entices him to the power of Mordor?
9. TROLL CATAPULTS
10. BEAUTIFUL MAN ANGER
Aidan Turner as Kíli getting angry, who wouldn’t want to see this?
11. Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry is back as the Master of Lake-town, whose greed will inevitably determine not only his own fate, but the fate of the town. More Stephen Fry screen time is always good!
12. Legolas being Legolas
A trip into Middle Earth with Peter Jackson wouldn’t be complete without complex Legolas (Orlando Bloom) action shots. It doesn’t look like there will be any shortage of this going into the last part of the Hobbit saga.
13. The final show down with the Pale Orc
The final confrontation between Thorin and Azog (Manu Bennett) is set to be an incredible one. We’ve waited two movies for the culmination of this rivalry, so expect nothing short of greatness from this clash of Kings.
14. And of course – Martin Freeman
It wouldn’t be the Hobbit without Bilbo <3
