TRAILER: Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (Joss Whedon – 2015)

As I post this we can safely assume that you, just as I have, watched this damned trailer at least 10 times. Firstly, props to Marvel for turning a leak into a publicity opportunity and gifting us with the trailer in all its HD glory. Secondly, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

From sneak peeks at the HULKBUSTER in action, a tortured Tony Stark, our heroic team in disarray and villain manipulating our newest mutated characters (god forbid Fox allow Marvel to call them f*cking mutants); April 23rd cannot come quickly enough.

Shall we Bust?

Whedon’s interview with French website AlloCiné continued to ring in my mind with each new viewing. He discussed that he had a very specific influence for the structure of Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“The model I’m always trying to build from, or my guiding star, is The Godfather: Part II, where a ton has happened in between and it’s a very different movie [from Part I], but you don’t need any information…It’s there in the film about what’s happened since, what’s different, and why is this a different film; why is it a different kind of structure, and why is it darker. It’s all there, you’re in the vernacular of the first movie and you’re just ready to pick up in this new place, and hopefully that’s what will happen with my movie.”

Ultron’s quotes from the voiceover are as follows:

“I’m gonna show you something beautiful; everyone screaming for mercy.”

“You want to protect the world but you don’t want it to change.”

“You’re all puppets tangled in strings….strings.”

“I had strings but now I’m free… There are no strings on me. ”

Released in Australia April 23, 2015
