Throughout the Christmas holiday period the studios are unleashing their next big hope for the summer blockbuster season upon audiences and Warner Brothers have theirs firmly pinned on ‘Man of Steel’.

The new trailer for the Superman reboot will appear in front of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ when it hits cinemas in the US but it has already appeared online.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen) and under the guiding hand of filmmaker, Christopher Nolan as producer, it looks like they’re taking Superman deadly serious to the point of asking, why so serious?  It’s time for the world to get a great modern Superman film and a stern hand is exactly what the character needs in a world that’s grown way too cynical to believe that a man can fly.

It looks like Snyder is grounding the story and characters with the focus on the dilemma presented by the existence of someone with great power and how that person is a product of their environment and what inspires someone to choose good over evil, or even to do nothing at all with their gifts.  All of this is contrasted with what looks like grand sci-fi inspired comic book action; Superman is an alien after all.

The cast includes Henry Cavill in the cape and tights (and a beard for a bit too) plus Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe.

‘Man of Steel’ is released:

27 June 2013 Australia

14 June 2013 US
