Academy Award winning director Tom Hooper is following up The King’s Speech by translating Les Miserables from the stage to the screen. He’s compiled an all star cast featuring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway – and they’ve released the first batch of official stills from the film. There have been a few ‘official leaked’ pictures via the twitter via @russellcrowe and @RealHughJackman but courtesy of USA Today here are the leads on show.

Prisoner 24601, Jean Valjean, is released from prison and breaks parole to create a new life for himself while evading the grip of the persistent Inspector Javert. Set in early 19th-century France, the story reaches resolution against the background of the July Revolution of 1832.
Les Miserables is set for release in Australia on 26th of December 2012.
